3R Buddy Group - February 13, 2012

                                                                        February 13, 2012
Hi Folks,
Note to self…I still get tears in my eyes when I hear the playing of the National Anthem.  And the best rendition of the song is Whitney Houston’s version at the 1991 Super Bowl.  (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jeUINzHK9o&feature=g-all-u&context=G2cb91f9FAAAAAAAAFAA)

RAVE RUN…
On Saturday, we held a run (virtual) for Sherry Arnold, a Montana runner who disappeared during a morning run last week.  I read over the weekend that her body was found and the police have some people in custody for her murder.  Our prayers go out to Sherry’s family for this tragic event.
As I noted on Facebook, though we all run at different paces, and we run different distances, and we run on different paths, there’s a bond that we all share as runners.  It’s the casual wave, nod of the head, or polite smile we share in passing with other runners on the path.  Though we’re fierce competitors at the start of a race, we show genuine concern should a runner falter during the run.  We do it because we know it can happen to us.  We run knowing that we’re one bad step from faltering ourselves.  And when we’re done with our run, we say a short prayer thanking the Lord, thanking him that we made it back safely.
Send me your favorite Youtube video’s, stories, and photos of moments, experiences, places, or people that you feel we can enjoy reading about in the BG email.

Just a reminder…Safety is the number one goal for the group.  Safety in the areas we run, the weather we run in, and the recovery spots we enjoy.  If you feel uncomfortable about a run, please don’t risk coming out for a run.  Because we’re all different, I can’t make judgment calls on your behalf.  You’re the only one who can make that call.

And now for some messages from the Hippy Dippy Weatherman.
Is it spring yet?

Rockford Half-Marathon next May…
The date is May 20th, 2012.
Training starts in two weeks.
As of now, there will be a few walkers among the group who will be venturing to the half.  So, everyone should come out.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Crazy Legs…
Crazy Legs Classic 8K race in Madison on April 28th, 2012.

Registration is now open.  When you register, you’ll need to select a packet pickup location.  Pick the Kohl’s Center and let me know if you want our Madison people (Sheena) pick up your race packet on Friday night.

Walkers are welcomed to the race and the BG will be represented by several walkers.  So, there’s no excuse for not showing up.

We’ll carpool to the race and we’ll have our Madison people find a spot for recovery after the race.

Ms Scubie and Speedo want me to mention that neither one showed this past Saturday (02.11.12) for trail running.  I have just one word for them…clams.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After last week’s email, noting that the registration for the Chicago Marathon is closed, I received a couple of emails.  First, Andrew mentioned that there are charity slots still open for the fall event.  I (and others of the BG) ran for the Alzheimer’s Assocation a few years ago when we ran Chicago.  And second, there’s the Stone Bridge Marathon that takes place on the path between Belvidere and Roscoe held at the same time.

Remember, the BG is on Facebook.  The link to the group now is: http://www.facebook.com/pages/3R-Buddy-Group/113136022536
The dates and activities for the next month or so should be out there.  So, look for some information there.  And go ahead and write on the wall.  Let others know about your running adventures.
