3R Buddy Group - October 24, 2011

                                                                        October 24, 2011
Hi Folks,
Note to self...There’s a strong benefit for training and running long distances.  When you’re vacationing in Washington DC and you just have to visit every Smithsonian Museum, the stamina that you gain from running comes in handy.
BTW…If you’re looking for last week’s email, keep looking.  I didn’t send one out.  I was, ‘er, vacationing in Washington DC.  Yes, 3 ½ days at the National Air and Space Museum.  By now, all planes look alike...NOT!

RAVE RUN…
I received the following from Armando following his Chicago Marathon experience…
Hi Dave,
I just want to let you know that I made BOSTON but now I just have to wait and see if it was good enough, I finished @ 3:25.   I was on pace to break 3:00 but I started cramping a little bit.  I had to slow down a little bit.  I had  a really good time.  I  will be back next year and do it again.  I felt really good running to raise money for OUR LADY OF THE ANGELS CHARITY IN Chicago,  I will be running KANSAS CITY  next and EL PASO TEXAS , thanks for all your support keep running STRONG     ……………!!!!!!!!! ARMANDO
Send me your favorite Youtube video’s, stories, and photos of moments, experiences, places, or people that you feel we can enjoy reading about in the BG email.

Tyranena Half-Marathon Training:
The race is next week Saturday.  Getting excited?  If you’re waiting to register for the big race, you’ll have a very long wait.  Registration is closed.  Sorry, you’ll have to wait until next year.  If you’re friendly with Missy Sue, you can get some quick lessons on how to run as a bandit.  But, you can always join us for the post run activities, for a modest fee.  Let the fun begin!
FIRST program: Week 17 - The distances for the week are: Thursday is 6 miles and Saturday is 8 miles.
Higdon program: Week 11 – The distances for the week are: Thursday is 5 miles and Saturday is 10 miles.
And as always, bring come can goods to the run.  The race is a fundraiser for the food pantries of Lake Mills and surrounding areas.

Here are a couple of website links that you may want to visit.  For more information about the races: http://www.tyranena.com/beerrun/website.htm.
Racecourse information can be found at:   http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/23903710.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And now for some messages from the Hippy Dippy Weatherman…and yes, I know these are repeats, but I really want to stress the points.
The leaves started falling so be careful out running.
Remember to wear reflective clothing so drivers can see you.
The Hippy Dippy weatherman is predicting cold and snowy weather coming in the next few months.  So start reviewing winter running wardrobe.

Rockford Marathon next May…
No one has come forward and accepted the challenge of the full marathon for next May.  But there are a few folks who want to train for the half-marathon.  So, our training next spring will be geared towards the half-marathon.  And, since we allow anyone to run with us, I’ll put the word out to see if others from outside our group will want to join the fun.
Training starts towards the end of February.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Don’t forget, the Crazy Legs race next April is on the calendar.

The date is April 28th, 2012.  The website mentions that it is 189 days away.

3R Buddy Group - October 10, 2011

                                                                        October 10, 2011
Hi Folks,
Note to self...Stay hungry, stay foolish.
By now you know that Apple’s founder and CEO, Steven Jobs has died.  If you have a chance, go to the internet and read a copy of his speech to the Stanford graduation class in 2005.

RAVE RUN…
For those who ran the Chicago Marathon yesterday, send me your stories.  Inquiry minds want to know how it went.
Send me your favorite Youtube video’s, stories, and photos of moments, experiences, places, or people that you feel we can enjoy reading about in the BG email.

Tyranena Half-Marathon Training:
There’s less than a month to go before the big day.  And just think, the weather we’re having recently will turn into a frosty, snowy mix within the next month.  Oh how, da Mudda plays with us.
FIRST program: Week 15 - The distances for the week are: Thursday is 7 miles and Saturday is 10 miles.
Higdon program: Week 9 – The distances for the week are: Thursday is 5 miles and Saturday is 6 miles.
I haven’t heard anything about the how registration is doing.  I’ll pass on any information when I get.  They do limit the number of runners so expect it to close soon.
We’ll carpool to the race.  Since the race starts at 11:00am, we usually meet about 8:00 or so.
Here are a couple of website links that you may want to visit.  For more information about the races: http://www.tyranena.com/beerrun/website.htm.

Rockford Marathon next May…any takers?  I’ve heard from a couple of folks who don’t want to train for the full marathon, but are interested in the half-marathon.  So, it appears our training next spring will be geared towards the half-marathon.  And, since we allow anyone to run with us, I’ll put the word out to see if others from outside our group will want to join the fun.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At a family function yesterday, the Crazy Legs race was brought up.  I know, it’s way too early, but a couple of family folks have decided to race it next year.  I can see it now, Mason-Dixon line, the Hatfields and the McCoys.  So, start planning on meeting Edweena evil cousin on Observatory Drive.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Congratulations to the BG’er who were in Chicago yesterday for the marathon.  Some of you qualified for Boston based on your times, but now have to wait to see if their times are good enough.  Now that you are finished, what are you going to do next?  Go to Disneyland?  (Sorry, I just had to through that in.)  But now that you’re finished, I want a short paragraph and photos for the newsletter.
I watched part of the race on the internet.  Wasn’t the winner great!  He set a new course record and I think I heard that it only his second marathon.  That guy has talent.

3R Buddy Group - October 3, 2011

                                                                       October 3, 2011
Hi Folks,
Note to self...I think I can run better in cooler weather.  Just wait until January.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
RAVE RUN…
I forgot to mention that last week’s picture of the lake was taken by Audrey.
I found another inspirational YouTube video.  It’s great pounding music and some great photos.  Not the best out there, but enjoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shJs9EJcQnI&feature=related
Send me your favorite Youtube video’s, stories, and photos of moments, experiences, places, or people that you feel we can enjoy reading about in the BG email.

Tyranena Half-Marathon Training:
How’s your training for the half going?  For you first time half-marathoners, getting excited?  I remember when I trained for my first half and getting excited.  I never ran longer than 3-4 miles and I was way out of my comfort zone.  But it was fun.  And now 7 years later, I’m still running and training for the next half.  Oh well, enough rambling.
FIRST program: Week 14 - The distances for the week are: Thursday is 5 miles and Saturday is 15 miles.
Higdon program: Week 8 – The distances for the week are: Thursday is 4.5 miles and Saturday is 8 miles.
I haven’t heard anything about the how registration is doing.  I’ll pass on any information when I get.

And now for some messages from the Hippy Dippy Weatherman…
Use caution on your runs when the leaves start to fall.  The leaves can hide glass and other sharp objects and the leaves can get pretty slippery when wet.
Remember to start carrying your reflective cloth, your headlamp and other lights when you run at night.  It’s getting dark early.
The Hippy Dippy weatherman is predicting cold and snowy weather coming in the next few months.  So start looking at your winter running wardrobe.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rockford Marathon next May…any takers?  If there’s enough folks wanting to train for the marathon and half-marathon, I’ll gear next spring’s schedule toward them.  And I may open the training to other runners of the Rockford community.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This weekend is the Chicago Marathon.  Good luck to Armando as he tries to secure a path to Boston.  I heard that there may be a Leslie sighting in Chicago this weekend, good luck Leslie (but why Chicago?  Doesn’t California have marathons?)  And good luck to first time marathoner, Joyce.  You picked a great race for your first marathon.  And just think, you three get to compete against the world’s best.
Now, this list isn’t inclusive.  I got the information from the chatter I heard mainly from Facebook.
And I expect a short paragraph from you folks so that I can include it in the rave run section of the email.
